Claudia Wilholt - Germany
Based in Germany, Claudia uses handmade egg tempera paint which she describes as “a slow drying process and the fact that egg tempera is soluble in water are qualities that one would normally only find in watercolour. This enables me to paint in translucent layers and gradually build depth and form. I produce my own paint by mixing balsamic turpentine, linseed oil, bone glue and egg into a base. When I add color pigments, my paint comes alive. Paintings often take weeks to evolve. The gradual and natural growth are vital to their subtlety and inner life. The process of painting is strongly influenced by a certain guided coincidence. All the same, it consists of a multi-layered row of momentary states that were looked at, changed, strengthened or painted over quite consciously.”
