Rose Currie

ABOUT

Rose was born and raised on Vancouver Island, the daughter of a paper mill worker who brought her home reams of paper to explore. There was an abundance of crayons, paint and scissors to keep her creative mind occupied.

Her early adult life was tumultuous and left her raising three sons on her own. Not to be held down, she put herself through an Honours B.F.A from the University of Victoria, graduating with distinction. With her graduation came a rare type of cancer, AML. She had a bone marrow transplant which saved her life at the age of 33.

Overall, Rose has accrued an impressive artistic resume spanning over 20 years. Her professional experience includes scenic painting for theatre, design, prints for fabric design and many solo visual art shows. She has been recognized for her work with awards that include first place in The Naked Truth photography contest.

Her life is forever altered from the illness and her treatment but for Rose, art saved her life. Her passions have always stayed true. Her work encompasses all the grief, love, power, colour, softness, grittiness and fierceness it is to be alive.
